NAEYC code of ethics

I-1.1—To be familiar with the knowledge base of early childhood care and education and to stay informed through continuing education and training.

This ideal is important to me because I wasn’t to be up to date on the latest information, research and findings in early childhood education. This ideal will be ongoing portion of my professional life because I would always strive to provide quality care and education to the children that I teach.

P-1.1—Above all, we shall not harm children. We shall not participate in practices that are emotionally damaging, physically harmful, disrespectful, degrading, dangerous, exploitative, or intimidating to children. This principle has precedence over all others in this Code.

This principle of the code of ethics is very important to me, because we as educators (or anyone else for that matter) should never harm or exploit a child in any way. This principle is a part of my professional life because it is my duty as a professional to care for the children that I teach in ways that are positive, and encouraging.

P-1.9— When we have reasonable cause to suspect child abuse or neglect, we shall report it to the appropriate community agency and follow up to ensure that appropriate action has been taken. When appropriate, parents or guardians will be informed that the referral will be or has been made.

This principle is important to me because, we as early childhood professionals are mandated reporters. This principle is important in my professional life, because as an educator it is my responsibility to ensure the safety and proper treatment of children in my care.

DEC code of ethics

1.We shall serve as advocates for children with disabilities and their families and for the professionals who serve them by supporting both policy and programmatic decisions that enhance the quality of their lives.

This principle is important to me because children with disabilities need strong advocates that all stand up for them to ensure that they receive proper treatment and services. This will be and is a part of my professional life because children will disabilities are included in least restrictive environments and that may include my classroom setting.

2.We shall use individually appropriate assessment strategies including multiple sources of information such as observations, interviews with significant caregivers, formal and informal assessments to determine children’s learning styles, strengths, and challenges.

This ideal is important to me because I think that there should be several different strategies implemented for the betterment of the child. This principle is currently a part of my professional life because within my classroom I utilize several techniques as well as differentiated instruction to assist each child on a case by case basis.

3. We shall honor and respect the rights, knowledge, and skills of the multidisciplinary colleagues with whom we work recognizing their unique contributions to children, families, and the field of early childhood special education.

This principle is important to me because I believe “It takes a village to raise a child”.  By this I mean that a team has to work together to ensure the success of the students. This is important in my professional life on an ongoing basis because I will have to interact with many professionals that may have various levels of education or experience that contribute to my classroom.
