Personal Childhood Web

The five people that influenced my life growing up as a child were: My Father - My father raised me as a single dad, the majority of my life. He taught me that no matter what you have to love yourself, because during your darkest times and during your highest times, the only person that is sure to be with you is You. this resonates with me now because I always think about what he said, if I'm feeling down or lonely, and I know that I'm always my biggest supporter and encourager. My Mothe r-My mother was not in my life that much as a child. She was around maybe the first five years or so until she moved away.      The quote on the picture above ( by Franklin Roosevelt) is so inspirational to me. We, as educators, have a big responsibility to shape and mold young minds. We have such a great and wonderful task of  preparing  children  for the upcoming future. Many people do not realize that teachers play a substantial role in the initial phases of a child's life. I  strongly believe that, although we may not know exactly what the future holds, we as educators can do our best to make sure that our children are safe, and adequately prepared.

Love is a Family

Love is a Family by Roma Downy is a great book to read. It tells the story of a little girl that is anxious about going to family school event with just her mother. The young girl feels as if her family should be larger. Throughout the book, the little girl explores the componets of several families. She soon figures out that even tough she has a small family, the love that they have for one another is more than enough. I can relate to this story as a single mother, I read it to my daughter and she loves it!! Book Reference:  Downey, Roma, and Justine Gasquet. Love Is A Family .                          1st ed. New York:HarperCollins, 2001. Print.
